My Countdown
Create a personalized countdown
Name your event, pick the date and time, choose a look. Your countdown gets its own link you can bookmark, text to friends, or embed anywhere. No account needed.
How to create a countdown in 4 steps
Making your own countdown takes less than a minute. Here is the whole process, start to finish.
- Name your event. Type what you are counting down to in the Event name box, like "Sarah's 30th Birthday" or "Our Trip to the Beach." The page shows it as "Countdown to" plus your name. Leave it blank and it simply says My Countdown.
- Pick the date and time. Choose the day in the Date box and, if your event starts at a set time, enter it in the Time box. Leave the time at 00:00 to count down to the very start of that day.
- Choose a look. Pick a theme from the menu, or scroll down and tap an occasion. Birthday, wedding, and holiday occasions set the colors, fonts, and floating decorations in one tap.
- Press Start countdown and share it. The clock starts right away. Copy the share link to send to friends, copy the embed code for a website, or tap Save image, Fullscreen, or Add to calendar.
That is all there is to it. There is nothing to download and no account to make. If you change your mind about the theme later, tap a new one and the share link updates with it. Want more ideas on planning and sharing a countdown? Read our full guide on how to make a countdown.
What your countdown can do
Every countdown you create here comes with the same set of tools.
- Live days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The clock ticks in real time and never needs a refresh.
- Its own share link. The event name, exact date and time, and theme are saved in the link, so anyone who opens it sees the same countdown.
- Embed code. Paste it into a website or blog to show the live countdown on your own page.
- Save image. Grab a picture of the countdown to post on social media or drop into a slideshow.
- Fullscreen mode. Turn any screen into a big party countdown, great for a TV at a New Year's Eve party or a classroom projector.
- Add to calendar. Download a calendar file so the event also shows up in your phone or computer calendar.
- A celebration at zero. When the countdown reaches zero, it shows a "The day is here!" banner with confetti, so the big moment feels like a moment.
Pick your occasion
One tap sets everything — the look, the floating decorations, and a name you can edit. Birthdays get balloons and cake, weddings get rings and champagne.
Or pick any look
Prefer to mix and match? Every theme changes the fonts, colors, background, and atmosphere — tap one to apply it instantly. Your share link keeps the theme.
How to embed your countdown on popular website builders
The embed code is a small iframe that shows your live countdown. Copy it from the box above, then follow the steps for your platform.
WordPress
In the block editor, add a Custom HTML block where you want the countdown, paste the embed code, and update the page. Use the Preview tab in the block to check it before you publish.
Wix
Open the Add menu, choose Embed Code, then pick the option to embed HTML. Paste the code, and drag the box until it is wide and tall enough to show the whole countdown.
Squarespace
Edit the page, add a Code block, and paste the embed code. Squarespace only allows code blocks on some plans, so if you do not see the option, paste the share link as a regular link or button instead.
Google Sites
Click Insert, then Embed, and choose the Embed code tab. Paste the code, press Next, then Insert. Resize the box on the page so all the numbers show.
Shopify
For a store page, open the page editor and switch to the HTML view, then paste the embed code. In a theme, you can add a Custom Liquid or custom HTML section and paste it there. Countdowns are popular for sales, launches, and holiday shipping deadlines.
Notion
Type /embed on a new line, paste your countdown's share link (not the full embed code), and press Embed link. Drag the edges to resize it.
Google Slides, PowerPoint, and Canva
Presentation and design tools usually do not run live web pages inside a slide. The easy workaround is to tap Save image and add the picture to your slide, then link it to your share link so it opens the live countdown when clicked. For a timer that runs inside a presentation, see our guide to a countdown for PPT.
Tip: the embed code is set to the full width of the space you paste it into. If the countdown looks cut off, make the embed area taller rather than narrower. For more ways to show a timer on a site, see countdown timer for website and our countdown widget guide.
Time zones, mobile, and what happens at zero
A few details that help your countdown land at exactly the right moment.
Time zones. The time you type is read in your own device's time zone. When you share the link, it carries that exact moment, and each person's screen counts down to the same instant in their own local time. So if you set 8:00 PM in New York and send it to a friend in Los Angeles, their countdown ends at 5:00 PM their time, right when yours does. If your event is in a different time zone from you, convert the start time to your own local time before you enter it. Our page on a countdown to a specific time has more help.
Phones and tablets. The countdown works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet, or computer, with no app to install. Save the share link to your home screen or bookmarks so you can check it with one tap.
When it hits zero. The clock stops at zero and the "The day is here!" banner and confetti appear. If you want to keep track of time since a date instead, such as days since a wedding or a quit date, use our days since counter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a personalized countdown?
Type your event name, pick the date and time, choose one of the 18 themes, and press Start countdown. The page updates instantly and the share link updates with it — anyone who opens the link sees the same live countdown, theme and all.
Can I change the theme after creating a countdown?
Yes — tap any theme in the gallery and the countdown re-dresses itself instantly. The share link always carries the current theme.
How does the share link work?
Everything about your countdown — the name, the exact date and time, and the theme — is stored in the link itself. Bookmark it, text it, or post it; it will keep working and keep counting.
Can I embed my countdown on a website?
Yes — copy the embed code and paste it into any page that accepts HTML. The embedded countdown stays live and keeps your chosen theme.
Is this countdown maker free?
Yes. Creating, sharing, and embedding a countdown is completely free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Make as many countdowns as you like.
Can I count down to a time in a specific time zone?
The time you enter uses your device's time zone, and the share link saves that exact moment, so everyone who opens it counts down to the same instant in their own local time. If your event is in another time zone, convert its start time to your local time before you enter it.
Can I embed the countdown in Google Slides?
Google Slides does not run live web pages inside a slide. Tap Save image to add a picture of your countdown to the slide, then link that picture to your share link so it opens the live countdown when clicked.
Can I count up from a date instead of down?
This tool counts down to a future date and celebrates when it reaches zero. To track time since a past date, like an anniversary or a streak, use the days since counter on this site.
Does the countdown work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets, and computers. Bookmark the share link or add it to your home screen to check it in one tap.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
The clock stops at zero and shows a "The day is here!" banner with a burst of confetti, so everyone watching gets a little celebration at the big moment.
